uh oh- dropped lifter

uh oh- dropped lifter dropped 2 of the lifters. almost got one out, but now we cant find it with the magnent. should we keep trying, or do we have to pull the oil pan <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> . if the latter, whats involved?

Which lifters did you drop? If you dropped a lifter from Cyl. 1,2,7,or 8 you might be in luck. There are cut outs in the casting of the block in the knock sensor valley. Remove the intake and the plate underneath. You will see the "holes" I'm talking about. If the lifter fell against the crank and rod assembly you should be able to reetrieve it or at least see it. If it is any of the middle cylynders try running your magnet down the cam bore, underneath it is completely open to the crank. Good luck and I hope you do not have to yank the motor.

Re: uh oh- dropped lifter hey, i already have everything off- heads were off originally. we pulled the knock sensor vally plate also. orginally 4 fell(dont ask). it was #5 & #7 cylinders. we got one of #5s out, and got the other #5 up to cylinder #4 and was trying to fish it out of there. then it was lost for good, lol. went back and got one of #7, and couldnt find the other one anymore.

they were sitting side by side on the windage tray. then one fell off cause i couldnt hook onto it enough. rolled into the deep part of the pan <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> . but i managed to lower it enough to where i could stick my hand in there and fish it back out without taking the whole K member off.

Re: uh oh- dropped lifter The lost lifter is most likely laying on the windage tray above the oil pan, you might be able to fish it out with an extension magnet and re-install it. Good Luck.
