Re: C5R head decision time!!
Also, on a side note, The heads and cam that the NASCAR Cup cars are running costs ~13k....Now you can see why engines cost about 60K. The setup that we are talking is simply a C5R engine with a cheaper rotating assembly, and possibly a hydraulic roller. Keep in mind, Solid lifters from Katech are 112.50 apiece from jesel. Yes, thats about 1800 in lifters ALONE there are cheaper alternatives such as crane, But Katech will only sell the best. Remember, The Vettes totaled over 3000 miles at Le Mans, and shifting ~6500 for 24 hours! If the drivers shifted 40 times a lap ( its an 8 mile track) That comes out to 600 shifts an hour, and 14,400 Shifts during the entire race....most a 6k+ and they still won, and you too can have those same heads on your car

Looks like the C5R heads are a go. Also Jesel rollers, etc. The next choice will be the cam. Either let Comp build it or get it from Katech.
Does anybody know who is making the best intake for these heads? Dual TBs? Air intake? Gotta get that too you know.

No offense but it sounds like a big waste of money to me for a street car. I know its a collectible etc but it sounds like it is approaching the ridiculous. For what an extra 100-150hp over an all out solid roller LS6 setup?
I can understand wanting the block and rotating assembly for reliability but I would personally go with LS6 hardware with solid cam and then a custom intake.
JMO though of course
Sounds like the entire project is going to cost over 100K when done not including the car itself. I think the idea itself is great just glorious excess IMO

Re: C5R head decision time!!
Im with Chris, there are alot better things I could think of to spend that kind of money on than a 4th gen Fbody. In fact you would be better off getting a ZL1 motor in the first place All IMO of course, but nevertheless all of us at LS1tech would welcome a C5R headed bretheren with open arms!

So, if I understand you guys correctly, you're saying putting over $100k in a catfish is not wise? Hmmmm....guess I never thought of that.
Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahaha...Gentlemen the car is a done deal. I love the 4th gen and that's all there is to it. It's a muscle car. Live rear axle. Fun to drive and fun to look at.
What I'm looking for here is good, solid, hands-on opinions and advise to make the car the best it can be. I do understand your concern, but it is wasted. The car is a done deal.

Hi GRB, inverted dome to me, means a bowl instead of a shallow dish. If it retains the existing quench area then thats better still as long as you get the compression down to where you want it to be. Mike.
