broke a 941 spring, need a ? answered
thanks
But thats definately the symptom of a broken 941
941s just suck in LS1 applications...not the nitrous's fault.

Really... I find it funny that my MTI T1 cam, stock lifters, and valve guides took a **** before anything has happened to my 941's. (See my reply in the "Engine Problems... help!" post by thebadbat).
BTW... I have 51,000 hard miles on my 941 springs with ti retainers. On the dyno, they show no evidence of having become any weaker... no signs of valve float... strong all the way to my redline (6600rpm). In fact, I would NEVER swap them out for 918's. If that thought ever crossed my mind again in the future, I would go doubles (987's) just for that extra measure of safety.
BTW... I have a .574/.574 222/222 114lsa cam, 5.3L heads (milled .030 over, 3 angle valve job, stock valves, about 11.2:1 compression), most bolt-ons, etc, etc.
Very few 26918 issues compared to 941s, FWIW. I would MUCH rather have 26918s, hands down.

Speaking on behalf of most LS1 owners I know in SoCal, there have been more nasty 918 breaks than 941's. Terry Burger runs a 941 if I remember correctly and he hasn't been complaining. Maybe I shouldn't be speaking so generally, but in all honesty I DO NOT believe there is a perfect single spring, regardless of material or shape. For TRUE redundancy I would go double's or triple's (Yes I know it requires the spring seat on the heads to be machined to fit, BUT more than likely the carnage that COULD occur would be FAR LESS than that of a single spring). The only reason I didn't go this route is I generally don't fix something that isn't broken
I’ve seen/heard of MANY more 941 breaks than 918s around my area. Actually, I’ve only seen one 918 break and it wasn’t due to general weakness of the spring (was later found to be a mistake by the machine shop that assembled the head).
I know of a lot of guys running .581+ lift XE-R grinds with duration in excess of 224 and putting lots of hard miles on 26918s without issue.
But I do agree that doubles are the way to go if you really wanna be safe (and especially if your doing heads and they’re already removed anyway).

My boss/friend has them on his car and he has a higher lift/duration cam than I do. So far he's has not run into any problems and he has been racing them quite often.
Just thought you'd like to know.
