Sounds like your oil pump is going bad.

98' LS1's had a recognized weakness in their oil pumps, keep an eye on it and if it starts reading below 40psi consistantly replace with the new ZO6 oil pump.

check the oil level.my car did the same thing at the track and it was 1 1/2 guarts low.I use to ever check my oil just change it every 3000 mile, but sins i install 4.10 it tends to use a little oil now and i now have to add a guart before i get to my oil change.hope this help.

Default Oil perssure ?

I was driving home lastnight and decide to do a 30 punch from 1st and looked down at the oil pressure and right when I hit the gas the pressure went from 40psi to about 20PSI and thats got me really nervious. Does any one have any ideas what this means any input would be great thanks.

Thanks for all the replys i went and had the oil changed and it was about 3 qts low so far so good im gonna get and ported ls6 oil pump when i put in my cam just for ansurance reasons.
