Default Could the new vette(C6) LS2 be a C5R

I was wondering with all of the posts about the C6 lately on other boards that the LS2 will be an evolution of the LS6.

The Corvette is supposed to get an new engine for the C6 so here's a list of what it could be.

1.Displacement on Demand(8-6-4):This engine was considered, but is not likely, GM has said they want to try it out on their trucks before anything else.

2.DOHC motor:Interesting and a possibility, but no more info on it.

3.LS6:Could this engine still be used at all for the vette? Doubtful.

4.Camless Engine:One of the most interesting ideas for the future of cars! Seems too high-tech, even for GM, at the present time. Could makes it debut on the Corvette in the next 5-10 years.

5.LS2:Considering how GM has evolved from LT1's to LT5's and then to LS1's to LS6's then the next motor would be an improvement over the LS6. I think the C5R engine would be the engine that becomes the LS2 with it's improvements over the LS6. With GM mass producing the C5R's the price would go down and make it a viable engine.

Does anybody know a lot about the C5R block? Does it weigh less than the LS6 while still producing more hp? Anybody wonder if LPE has been testing the LS2 for GM like they did with the LS6?

Feel free to add to what I've said or correct me where you think I'm wrong.

The LS2 is the Cam-less engine, and GM is already testing it in several vehicles.

My soucres say that the Z06 engine is called an LS7. New heads that will remain interchangable with the current block, but totally different intake -- that includes the bolt pattern and port location. I have heard several things about the intake, but none of them have agreed with one another. Whatever it is, it must be different. Bigger bore, but it is not 4.125" and it is not based off of the C5R block. It is still based off a production block as we have now. I personally believe that it is a 4" bore. Possibly bigger on the stroke. I hear HP figures in the 440 to 460 range. The base engine in the 405 to 415 range. Everything still has a camshaft. Whatever it is they have done a really good job at keeping it quiet.

The information is still at www.gm-cars.com along with a blurred front pic of the C6.

Maybe I shouldn't have posted that!

Sounds like the engine will be the same size at the LS1&LS6 5.7L, and not bigger like alot of magazines have said. Which makes sense since the Corvette team wants to avoid the gas-guzzler tax which you'll have a hard time doing with a 6.0L or a 427.

I have to wonder how GM can improve on the LS6 heads and intake without using the C5R tech.
