Default Bottom End

Long story, but woke up to no oil pressure one morning....

OK, just did the test for the oil pump; removed filter, disabled ignition and turned it over. No oil coming out where the filter was. Dealer already replaced sending unit on the manifold. So I'm going to buy a Katech oil pump.

I just read on ls1info how to do it, but to properly 'inspect' the bottom end of the car am I going to have to raise the motor off the mounts or pull the engine entirely? I mean to pull the oil pan further than the install has it written.

I have had a bunch of posts regarding a new shortblock, but figured I need to see what if any damage I have to the bottom end.

Which will lead to a myriad of other posts regarding whether it's cheaper to rebuild the stock bottom end ( say new rings, bearings, turn the crank and get the block honed up ) vs. buying a new short block ( $2500 ).

I spoke with Katech and they said you can change rod bolts with the engine in the car. I dont know if you take the pan off without lifting the engine up some though.

Well, I figure I just want to pull the cover and look. If things are messed up I assume I would want to pull the engine at that point. But it is nice to know you can change the rod bolts from underneath.

I know this thread is old, but it's always better to search than to ask again, (and I am searching how to do this) so, this is how you do it without taking off the engine:
