Default Addition to How to replace an oil pump document

the doc was a good guideline on replacing the pump. i did however run into a few problems.

- do not tighten the timing cover, just place two bolts in the holes to hold it in place

i snugged mine a bit too much and messed the timing cover/crank gasket up, it rolled the rubber seal back as i installed the pulley. the pulley will align the timing cover for you. then you can tighten the cover. oh well, not serious, just have to get another seal.

just an fyi, in case anybody else removes their timing cover.

Wow, that truly is a good piece of advice. I just did my cam swap and I went ahead and tightened the timing cover before I put the pulley back on. Guess I just got lucky that my seal wasn't pulled back.

Good tip!

Farmtruc, good call...thats how I've always done things (except my first time) actually so I just assumed my doc said that. I'll go back and double check it tonight.

Andrew (stretchnuts), remember the other day, I reminded you to put the pulley on before tightening the timing cover. Guess you forgot..DOH. If you used a new seal you are probably ok.

my seal was new, but unfortunately it still bent the other way, so it depends on if the timing cover is centered. btw, it doesn't seem to mess up the seal, i removed mine and installed a new one anyway. i guess the rubber is flexible enough, but i'm sure it would have leaked.
