Default 408/402 Combo questions

Just wanting some more opinions on my future plans. I always hear new ideas that I never thought of when I ask questions on here. I don't think I will ever be a power adder guy because so far I just want a nasty street car. In my head the more simple I keep it the better for my peace of mind. So I was wondering what was recommended 408 or 402 setup, I know TSP does the 402 LS2 Iron block for about 3800. I thought that was pretty good bang for buck. Anyone see a way to better spend that or maybe a better set up for not much more?

The other thing is.....what would be an ideal CR for tuning on this type of motor? 10.5:1?

Lastly AFR 225s? or are the L92 heads more ideal?

You could go as high as 11.5 but the car would have to strictly run on 93. And I would go with the 408.

I just bought my LS2 402 with L92 heads upgraded with .650 lift springs and milled to 63cc, L76 intake, 90mm TB, custom ground comp cam, lifters, timing set, 40# injectors, fuel rails, etc. from SDPC (sponsor on here, www.sdpc2000.com). The motor is essentially only needing a couple covers and the LS1 accessories. All this for $7060 shipped to the motor installer's shop.

The 408 will save you some cash. As far as heads and intake go, go with the L92/L76 head/intake setup. The heads flow 330ish and with the .650 lift springs and 63cc mill job cost $1200. The intake kit comes complete with 90mm tb, fuel rails and 40# injectors for around $500. You actually have to get a different TB to work on our cars, but you can sell off the other TB fairly easily. You could stay at 10.5 CR (which is what I am doing) if you want a fun, nicely mannered daily driver. You could go up to 12:1 CR on the 408 but you would have to run 93 octane and have a pretty dead on tune, but it's done often.

The nice thing about the L92 heads is that they seem to like a very wide lobe seperation. I think a lot of the L92 cams being run now are in the 113-115 LSA which makes for a nice idle. Not a lot of bucking or drawing attention until you go WOT and set free 500hp =)

Wow, thanks. I really wouldn't mind the 113 LSA, sounds friendly enough. Are the strength weight differences that great between the 402 and 408. The 408 did appeal to me because it is a bit cheaper. Thanks again

the iron blocks are around 80-100 lbs heavier than the aluminum block give or take a few lbs.i like the appeal of the l92/76 setup because it definitely has potential and is dirt cheap, but unfortunately some people have had results that were shy of expectations.it's hard to beat the power of a set of tfs or afr 225 heads with a 90/90 setup but you will have to spend quite a bit more is the down side.
