Default Bent rods... what now?

My wife was driving the car from cross country, and she said that all of a sudden she heard a loud banging, and the dash started to shake really hard (she thought she had a flat). The clutch seized, and she pulled to the side of the road. Jim Bob's repair shop said I had bent rods, and that I blew some seals. She had to get here, so they repaired the seals. My questions are: 1) Is the assesment accurate? 2)If it is, what damage besides the seals was done? 2) Can I replace the rods/seals myself? The car has close to 80k... I'm wondering if I should just sell it and get something else... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

asuming you are talking about pushrods, that is something you can do yourself, in a few hours. I'd suggest comp as replacements, but I have a set of stockers I'll hook you up with. If it is connecting rods that you are talking about, PM me.
