Default Pushrod Length

just to get that out of the way
A 2004 ls6 w/the hollow .6mm (.0236)longer valves and stock cam(smaller base circle than LS1) = 7.4 pushrods
same engine w tr224/114lsa cam (LS1 base circle)
.0236/1.7(stock rockers) = .0138823(.0139)
(stock pushrod)7.4 -.0139= 7.3861
so 7.4 is .0139 to long?
and 7.375 is .0111 to short?
I know the only way to be sure is a pushrod length tool, but am I going in the right direction?

Where did you get that formula at? I dont think it is right. What is the base circle of your new cam?

Just going by the consensus of the searching I did
the 2002-4 LS6 ZO6 cam has a smaller base circle because of the longer valves
Most aftermarket cams are listed as LS1 cams
I don't have a new cam yet, still deciding

Aftermarket cams do not have the same base circle as the stock ls1 cams do. Aftermarket cams have smaller base circles. Here is the correct formula.

new pushrod length= ((Old cam base-New cam base)/2) + (old pushrod length-head gasket changes-head mill amount)

Stock LS1 cam base is 1.553, stock pushrods are around 7.39.

Here is what my setup was 232/236 cam, heads milled about .030 and went from a .050 gasket to a .040.

((1.553-1.450)/2) + (7.39-.030-.010) = 7.4015
I went with 7.4 rods.

Consenus is not fact, do the actual measurements yourself to be accurate. I recommend using a pushriod checker either way. You have too much rod and your preload will be too much and lifters will wear easily, too less rod and you will have a noisy valvetrain.

thanks
Do cam manufactures list base circle numbers or you just measure it once you get it

I'm interested in this too...I was given a cam from an 03 CTS-V / LS6 and with less than 1000 miles on it, it appears to be the .550 lift version. I have a stock 02 LS1 and am keeping the stock LS1 heads. I want to do this cam swap-upgrade myself, what am I going to need??

And is there any way to know this pushrod length up front as this is my daily driver.

Spring brand recommendation ?

Pushrod brand and length?

Anything else to replace while I'm in there?

K, I've been doing some more reading in here...the Camguide is excellent, and I have gone thru the walkthru of installing a Cam by JMX.

It looks like its worth the effort...for me I want a daily driver that will have some extra grunt and still pass emissions so the Ls6 cam seems like enough.
