There are plenty of experenced sponsors that deal with short blocks that can help you. I think you'll be happier with one of their motors than a local inexperenced machine shop.

if i were you i would just go bigger, cause im pretty sure you were gona do it later so just save your pennies and do it now while you already have the block ripped apart and chances are that if you fried em its probly some damage done to the cylender walls (maybe, maybe not) but then again thats just my 2 cents

What about having the rotating assembly balanced?

both are about the same price and I do realize they are not the same animal. My worry is if I buy the stroker kit I will not be able to find a good shop to do the machine work anywhere close to Iowa City. If I go with the short block most of the work is done, balanced and blue printed all I have to do is install the heads and a few other things and that I can do myself very easily. What would you do? Would it be better to conceder just replacing the rings, pistons and rods? But then they would not be balanced. Any in put is helpful.
