Default Can anyone explain the difference in these Cams to me?

I'm having my engine rebuilt because it got hydrolocked.
I want them to change the cam, and intake and port my heads while they're at it.
I like my car to remain very Stock in Appearance, Sound and Drivability.
That's why I only went with a TT2800 which I'm very happy with.
So, I want the Best Cam for me.
Decent, (not crazy) hp gains, yet very stock sounding and acting.
Price also matters so I want something affordable as well.
I also feel a little safer putting in a GM cam rather than aftermarket stuff.
So far I have been eyeing the LS6 cam, but now it seems there's two.
And another post confused me because they said the LS1 Hot Cam was the same as the LS6 cam.
So I found all the technical info on these GM cams.
Can anyone explain what they mean in layman's terms?
Thanks.

I'll go down your list of cams starting with the ASA cam. This is a big cam and for racing. The high duration and 110 LSA will make it so you need a lot of tuning with your a4 and it will sound like a monster, not stock. So this one is not for you.

Next is the hotcam. This is not the same as either of the LS6 cams. This cam puts out pretty good power and people have seem more than 390 rwhp with this cam. However, it will not sound stock and will probably need to be tuned.

The first LS6 cam on the list was put in the 2001 ZO6. This cam is a slight upgrade over stock, and will give you some hp. You wont need tuning with this cam and it should idle almost like stock.

The last cam is the newer 2002-03 LS6 cam which is in the newer ZO6's and will offer more performance than the other LS6 cam with the same stock sound, but will deliver less than the hotcam. Some have said that this cam along with the springs can easily be swapped in even though the base circle is smaller than the normal cams for our cars. You may want to research more on this cam as some feel valvetrain problems may occur as the valves are not as long as the LS6 valves used with this cam in the vette.

I hope this info can give you a point in the right direction.

Cool, thanks for the info!

It also seems that with the LS6 cam you need to change your pushrods.
I found this quote somewhere:

"New for the 2002 Corvette, the 405hp camshaft for the LS6 engine option.
Please note that this cam has approximately a 0.050" smaller base circle than a stock LS1 camshaft.
This smaller base circle will require longer pushrods for applications with stock length valves and no milling for the head surface.
It is imperative that you check your pushrod length when purchasing this cam.
2002 LS1 cam centerline to lobe heal = 19.7 mm (.776")
2002 LS6 cam centerline to lobe heal = 19.0 mm (.748")
The 2002 Z06 cylinder heads use a longer valve to make-up this difference
Now, if the heads had been milled .028"/. 030", that would offset all of this, and you would use stock 7.40" length rods with that cam."

Also... what does "Gen 3" mean???

Gen I = small block chevy we all know and love
Gen II = LT1
Gen III = LS1

It basically means it is a third generation small block chevy.

Gen 3 is the designation for the new style small block. All old 350 or derivatives are of the gen 1 and gen 2 small block design. All engines derived from the LS1 are Gen 3. They mention that these are Gen 3 parts because the parts are not interchangeable with older style small blocks.
