So I am looking at the lifters out of my LS6 and they are very similar to the new LS7 caddy lifters then the stock lifters. I am wondering though bnecause the hole out of the lifter faces down onto the roller and the newer style lifters faces (side) the pin that holds the roller.

What way do the lifters go in when installing...when they are in the tray they could be faced up or down?

Why do lifters go bad...what in them fails?

Kinda off topic but... With every sbc cam change I would always put all of the lifters in a medium sized coffee can and fill with oil. Then I would wrap a rag around the tip of a pushrod and manually push the plunger up and down until the little bubbles stopped coming out. Never done this with lsx type lifters, but wouldn't it work the same if the lifters are hydraulic?
