Default offset ground crank question

dreaming about my next mod and dreaming big.

i see people talking about an offset grind on the lunati crank, how much might that cost and what are the drawbacks? i like the idea of a iron block 422 (4.035 x 4.125). what are the drawbacks of just the lunati set up, is there major clearancing required?

any idea what an asembled iron 422 short block might cost? i am thinking around 6k, am i way off?

thanks

Offset grinding should cost you around $ 150-175.00. You may experience some clearancing issues with the 4.125" stroke on a stock block (non C5R). Nothing that can't be dealt with. If you are using that size stroke I would bother offset grinding. I prefer to stick with no more then 4.00" stroke. I have heard of some balancing problems with the real long strokes.

As far as 6K. Here's a typical package

Crank $ 2,200-2,500.
Pistons/rings $ 1,000.00
Connecting Rods $ $ 800-1,000.00
Camshaft $ 350-400
Good Oil pump $ 150.00
Timing chain set $ 160.00
Bearings, Gaskets etc $ 250.00
Head studs/main studs $ 350.00
Machine work $ 800-1,000.00
Assembly labor $ 600-1,000.00

It ain't cheap!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
