Default Stupid oil question

I just changed my oil. Trouble is, despite the fact that I bought the "correct" oil filter, it didnt fit. So I put the old one back on and put the new oil in. I did not have much of an option. Is this really bad? I run a lot of highway miles and will change the oil sooner. Sorry, I'm a novice and want to make sure I'm not killing my engine.

Thanks,
Eddy

Just change it out when you get correct filter & top off oil level.

What was the filter that you bought that did not fit?

I agree, just change the current filter with a new one, fill it up with fresh oil, and you'll be fine. There is a little bit of dirty oil in your engine, but the LS1 holds enough oil that the amount of dirty oil compared to fresh oil in there is pretty safe.

By the way, if you're doing mostly highway miles all the time, you don't need to change the oil sooner, you can let it go longer. Highway driving is very easy on the oil.

It was a fram XG 3387A. It would not screw on.

So you guys are saying to change the oil again and put a new filter on right now? Do you ya think i can get away with another 2500 miles on this old filter? Im not sure I want to wate the new mobil 1 I put in there, unless of course the filter is more worthwhile.

I know about the highway miles being easier, I meant that I thought I could get away with a little more because of it.

Thanks for the replies, guys, I appreciate it. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" /> I know this isnt the latest 422 stroker conversation or anything.

You don't have to change all of your oil. Fill up your new filter with some oil. Pull the old one out and screw on the new filter (which is filled with new oil). That should be good enough until your next oil change.
