Default Head/cam suggestions for a 382 Stroker

Hi all,

If I were to put the Lunati 382 stroker kit in, what heads/cam would you recommend? Should I get the stock heads ported locally or should I send them off on a core charge deal?

I'm sure the cam suggestion depends on what heads I go with, or vice versa.

Any recommendations on local shops that port heads in the Dallas area?

Thanks,
Erik

I certainly wouldn't let just anyone do it. Porting LS1 heads are alot different than porting SBC heads. I use MTI in Houston. Can't go wrong with them. They definitely know their **** when it comes to head porting. They've helped me get my car into the 9s on motor.

Cam selection? What kind of power are you looking for? What will the car be used for? Street, strip, or both? What kind of idle and drivability are you looking for? What kind of rpms do you want to turn?

I have a 382 stroker!

I say, go with MTI or GTP heads. For the cam, I have the MTI X1 cam, it has lots of power and great idle! You can't go qrong with it!

Look at my sig!

The car will be used primarily on the street, pretty much a daily driver. But, after doing all the work it would be a shame not to take to the track every once in a while.

Thanks for the opinions and advice!

I had my heads ported by a local guy with good results, but I think I just got lucky. I had a 224/224 .539 114lsa and put out 448rwhp/439rwtq, which I was pretty happy with.
I just upgraded to a 236/232 .602/.575 112lsa and I love it so far. Sounds much better than the 224, which was VERY tame. It sounded close to stock, which was kinda cool. The cam now has a very nice lope idles with no problems and pulls like HELL!!!
I'll dyno asap, but it will be at least a week. I plan on upgrading to gtp s2 LS6 heads soon.

Just remember for stroker heads you should be fine with 2.02/1.57 valves or 2.55/1.60 at the biggest. Don't skimp on the heads, you'll regret it.

here's my current mods. I'd also HIGHLY recommend a McLeod Twin Disc clutch!

Another question...

I've read a few posts now about cams that pass emissions. I do plan to drive the car on the street mostly (as I said earlier) so what cma specs would I have to stay under in order to pass the emissions test in the Dallas area in Texas?

Thanks again!
