Default lifter tapping

so i installed a 232/234 cam with dual valve springs about 900 miles ago. the car was dyno tuned. so now 900 miles later when i start the car a lifter on the right side is taping decently loud and goes away after about 2 or 3 min but u can still here a little tap here and there with some gas. then it gets quieter but still u can here it from time to time (while inspecting under the hood not while driving) im running castrol 10w30 and i live here in tx where we have some extreme climates. 0 degrees one day 110 the next. so my dad which has been a mechanic and owned his own shop for 25 years tells me that straight 30 should fix it right up and that thinner oil is probably draining out of the lifters causing it to tap like that at first. so i pulled off the valve cover today to make sure the rockers werent loose or anything else wrong and i made sure they were all torqued at 24 ft lbs. and they were all fine. everything looked good. put it back together and still taps. oil is full and everything. so im going to switch to 30 wt and try that but has anyone else had this problem or have any suggestions. if the oil doesnt help am i gonna have to replace the lifters? this car is wearing me out fast.

Mine done the same thing so i pulled the heads and put new lifters in. It sounds better but still ticks. Not like a lifter going bad but they all make a slight ticky sound. Everybody tells me this is normal.

How many miles are on the car? What oil are you using now?

It's not uncommon for the valvetrain to be somewhat more noisy after a cam swap. However, some of what you're hearing could be piston slap to...

A tick is common with a cam and dual springs. Mine does it a little too.

car had 120,000 miles on it but is in amazing shape internally and externally. very clean. but anyways im running castrol 10w30. i did hear it would be noisy BUT the reason i ask is this didnt happen until 900 miles after the cam install. so i kinda wondered. like i said the ticking goes away after about 2 min of idling and might tap for a couple min more under a little bit of rpms but then goes away so im sure its the oil but just kinda weird. im almost 99% sure its not a piston hitting its no that loud haha. and it runs bad ***

Ditto...same here...

Mine ticks and has slap on a cold start...and you can tell the difference between the two.

Slap goes away as the engine warms, but the valvetrain ticks pretty much all the time.

If you have an assymetrical cam that raises the vale hard but sits it down lightly then some of the tick sound goes away too.

Is this "normal ticking" common in LS1's? It would be frustrating having to check and distinguish between the normal ticks and the bad lifters or pistons.

OK. Will do!

I love my TA even if it sings a ticking song. LOL

So all of these people have good lifters and pistons?

Thanks.
