Default DCR in California

What would be the optimal DCR for a 91 octane car? I am looking to build a LSX motor (between 454 - 473ci) and would like to run it on 91 octane or possibly some octane booster if needed. I have heard that 8.1 - 8.3 DCR is about max for a california car. Is this true?

Not exactly apples to apples motorwise but on my L98 TPI car with Dart Pro One aluminum heads I'm running 8.5:1 DCR. Using 91 octane gas. Running flat-top pistons, .035" quench and 10.73:1 compression. Live in Southern California.

One more question I forgot to ask. How much does octane booster actually raise the octane to?

well, for the most part, you know how it says "raises octane up to 7 points!" thats exactly what they mean...points. so your 91 octane just became 91.7 octane. BTW they also assume your using like 6 gallons of fuel, so add it to a full tank and...well you can guess.

if you want to try mixing your own octane booster, check this out:

http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/miscpage.html

there are a few articles in there you want to read regarding octane, how it works, octane boosters, etc. Most people are using Xylene for this, but the Homebrew Octane Booster is the one you want...read it last
