cam
You will need aftermarket springs with any cam worth its salt. The comp 26918's are working well (despite a bad batch) and cost somewhere around 200 dollars. You will also need some various gaskets when doing a cam swap, which (I think) comes to around fifty dollars. Also you will need hardend pushrods for most aftermarket cams and these run about 150 dollars. Outside of that is the Labor for install, which varies from shop to shop, but can cost 350-450 dollars. Also, you could end up needing computer tuning depending upon what cam you go with, and this costs on average around 350 dollars.
If you want to safe your engine , change your pushrods (comp).this for all LS1's
If you want to get anew cam , go with kitcam , if you not I advice you about pushrods first. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

You'd better off to save a few more bucks, and get the LS6 springs. Or, buy a used LS6 cam & springs combo from someone on the UBB --- I see lots of them for sale.
For a few more dollars, you can get a bigger increase w/ a Hotcam --- it comes w/ springs, and is a good value. They are also widely available used.
Have to disagree w/ Fahad about the hardened pushrods. The stock pushrods are a better "safety valve", especially for a street engine --- it's better to bend a pushrod than to drop a valve.
WTF is a "kitcam"????
