coolant problem A buddy of mine has a 98 Z28 with 66k miles on it stock except a lid.. before he had it there was a wet kit on it but it was gone when he bought it. We drove all the way home*arkansas* from Pennsylvania with no problems. The very next day we go down the road and its leaking coolant, so I change the water pump and thermostat and its still overheating. I did do one thing though, I filled it up with coolant and turned it on, let it get hot then turned it off and let it cool down and then checked the coolant level again and its completely dry with the ground being dry. Anybody want to chime in and help me out, ive heard head gaskets which cant be true because theres no water in the oil and its not coming out of the heads and ive heard intake gaskets, who knows. somebody help me out
we went through about 3 gallons of water/coolant and its still overheating.. heat cycles?? doing what I was doing right, just letting it get hott then turning off and let it cool down, then repeat. When I do that, theres absolutlely no water left in the radiator
There are 'spill-free' coolant bleeder bottles that attach to your radiator and allow for the air to be more easily released by introducing a high spot in the cooling system.
Another method people have used is taking one of the heater hoses loose while filling the radiator. Sometimes this can be a big process-take your time and have plenty of mixed coolant ready because it will burp and burp!

I would continue to give it a couple more fill ups and heat cycles. But, if you've went through more than 3 gallons and it's still not full, then you could have a more in depth problem.
Typically mine will take at least 2 1/2 gallons when I do a head swap. I cycle it a couple times, top it off and it's good to go.

do u have any white smoke coming out the exhaust? I wouldn't think this is possible cause u are saying that u fill her up that quick the level is going down. so if no white smoke then it has to be air pockets. try what these guys are recommending...
