Default Cam install question....

Hey guys, im puttin the SLP cam in my SS in a few weeks. I have the cam itself, new springs, retainers, keepers, and pushrods. What im wondering is, should i replace the timing chain while im at it? Some people have said that i should also replace the oil pump, but im short on cash and can only barely afford the chain right now.... BTW the car has 35xxx miles on it right now... I was thinking of the SLP double roller chain... any thoughts?!?!

I would replace at least the chain.

The stock GM chain is P/N 12552954, and can be had for about $30

Or, you can e-mail Darren at KB Engine Parts (Australia) and get a Jwis/Rollmaster Single Timing Set which includes the Jwis chain and Rollmaster timing gears for under $70 (delivered)
They also sell just the Jwis chain for a couple of bucks more than the stock GM chain price.

kbengineparts@hotmail.com

They also can get you the double chain Rollmaster Timing Set, but it will require you to shim the oil pump. You may not want to mess with all that.

I believe the Single Rollmaster Set will do you well and is stronger and of greater quality than the stock GM Timing Set.

Lots of choices <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Yes, I HIGLLY recommend that you DO NOT reuse the stock chain. You're already in there, replace it. If a chain breaks, bye bye heads, valves, etc.

I have an 01. Who has the best price on these? Is this the "SLP" one?
