Default 130,000 mile rebuild

Okay folks, lend me your expertise. My car isn't my daily driver anymore since I bought a sweet continental I currently have my car torn apart for some fun stuff before I leave for college, there is a whole list of "fun stuff" going in but thats not what is important. What is important is that my LS1 has 130,000 miles on it, and I am looking to "freshen & strengthen" her up a bit. I am really just looking for suggestions for parts.

I was gonna build it to be a cam only setup for a while with spray (at least until college is over) so I was thinking I would do full pushrods/rockers/valvesprings,seals,seats etc. Then a new timing chain, oil pump. Now for the bottom end, since I will be spraying, perhaps some new rod bolts would be in order? bearings?.. any other suggestions folks? Maybe just cleaning the block/heads/rotating assembly up. I am gonne have the engine/trans dropped so I would like to adress a bunch of things at once.

Basically without buying a new rotating assembly(later on down the road perhaps) what would you reccomend I replace and with what parts. I hear a lot of talk about LS6 oil pumps and LS2 timing chains and what not.

Buying new heads is out of the budget but maybe some headwork to the stockers could be done, an LS6 manifold P&P TB, lid and custom ram air setup will be setup on the car. Trying to hit 420+rwhp and 400+rwtq N/A and then a healty 125 shot. Still haven't decided on a cam.

I say you replace the oil pump with a ported one, and put in the ls2 chain. All this with your choice of cam of course

While you have her torn down, might mill those heads down a bit. The added compression will make a cam much more fun and more streetable.

leave your bearings alone. replace your rod bearings, do LS2 chain, ported LS6 pump, put at least some 243 heads on it. $450 to your door for 243 heads, and well worth it

Ok so I'm thinkin...

Ported LS6 oil pump
LS2 timing chain
Patriot Gold Dual Valve Spring Set ( or Extreme?)
Katech blueprinted rod bolts
Comp Cam Hi-Tech One Piece pushrods (7.400" ?)
hopefully I will have an LS6 manifold by then

perhaps some milled 243 heads as suggested? will my stock valves work with these? if not what valves would you reccomend?

as far as rod bearings go... reccomendations?

stock lifters and rockers should be fine right?

I just need to decide on a cam, any reccomendations to match the 243 heads?.. I was considering Patrick G's torque cam

Anybody?... at 130,xxx miles if I am going to go with any of the cams below/4.10's and really not spinning the motor all that high that often should the stock lifters be okay?

TR224 or TR230 or FM11 or FM12 or FM13

Hone the cylinders, replace rings, have pistons/rods checked, Melling oil pump(no need for a ported), and a good dbl roller timing chain setup.

Well i appreciate the advice but I really just need to know about my lifters at this point. The cylinders and rings are fine and I am sticking with just an LS2 timing chain.

Stick with stock lifters?

If you're planning to pull the heads, might as well get some new GM lifters. They do have 130k miles and if one fails, you'll have to pull the heads again. I think they're ~$130 so it won't add too much to your total cost.

I am currently doing a cam swap on my 00 LS1 with 120K on it ... I am upgrading the following,

TR230 Cam
Patriot Gold Springs
TSP pushrods (7.4)
Comp Stock LS1 Lifters
LS2 Timing Chain
LS6 Ported Oil pump
UD Pulley
SVO Injectors
ARP Head Bolts
Poly Motor Mounts
New Gaskets all around
... and now I am considering sending the stock heads off to a shop to get cleaned and maybe milled before they go back on.
New Fluids all around (coolant, oil, tranny, diff)

I think thats covering my bases, minus new rod bolts.

Hope that helped
