Default Short block vs long block

Just curious what are all the differance between the short and long blocks that the differant companies sell. Does it vary from company to company or are there set parts for each one. Just curious what would be needed for both to get the motor up and running.

A short block is the block itself, crank, rods, pistons, cam, oil pump, and timing chain. A long block is all of that plus heads, lifters and pushrods.

EDIT: That's kind of a generalization but that's what most companies call short blocks and long blocks. The brands and specs of pistons, cams, head flow numbers, etc. will differ.

So a short block is basically the block with the bottom end and a long block is the full motor..minus the manifold?
