Keep an eye on the level, and Dexcool will never steer you wrong. It is a maintenance item, and should be treated as such.

well on our cars they are normally hit in the front so the radiator breaks and we flush out the block and always use the green stuff. dexcool to us is just a problem because if it mixes with anything else youre fucked so we go with the green and havent ever had a problem

If the two are mixed, the dexcool loses its extended life properties. Thats all.

This is the truth...people will tell you it will gel but thats false. Do some actual research and from automotive tech sites and coolant manufacturer sites and you will see that no gelling will occur.

Apparantly GM uses some kind of gel-like cooling system sealant on problematic cars (mostly V6's with the intake gasket failures) this sealant likes to collect around the filler neck and make a mess. It's not the coolant itself doing it.

i am a GM technician and i really don't like the dexcool. every car i work on that has the stuff in it looks like crap. the radiatior cap has a blackish film on it and around the neck of the radiator.

on the other hand my dad use to run the prestone in his truck, (tow truck) changed it every year. he had to replace the radiator because it was stopped up.

i like & run mopar 100k mile coolant. its orange and works great. i never see any film buildup or rusting of my iron block 370. the stuff is about $20 a gallon though.

This is the final word folks. In my experience this sounds SPOT ON....Motor age magazine is an EXCELLENT and HIGHLY respected source of tech information. Like I said before Dexcool issues are regarded as fact in the automotive repair world. Anything BUT Dex in all my rides.

Been using Prestone Dex-cool since I bought the car. Only problem was at 96k the thermo wouldn't open, but i'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with what type coolant is being used.

Now, that's what I'm talking about! That is some good information! So basically use distilled water (as you should) and anything but Death Cool and you'll be fine? Buy the G-05 if you use tap water, or use an Asian mix if you use distilled.

I'm considering switching to something else now. Anything metal I've seen in my engine looks perfectly clean... anything that is plastic seems to have that residue on it.... hmm...

Again, VERY GOOD information LSWon00. Keep it coming guys
