Default Any difference between 98-02 LS1 heads?

I need to buy a new set of heads, my #6 plug is stripped.. i have a 99 SS with stock heads. Ive been looking for some stock heads around the other boards, are the 2002 heads any different from 1999 heads? As far as flow and compression goes? Basically, besides replacing a head with a bad plug hole, will i see any kind of gain in performance? Thanks!

AFAIK, the only differences are that 97-98 heads used a perimeter bolt pattern for the valvecovers, whereas the 99-up LS1 heads use a centerbolt valvecover.

The 97-98 also have a dimple on the sealing surface & use different head gaskets than the 99 & up.

h 2002 heads are a diffrent casting # and flow better. they ae a cleaner casting with less casting flash. my 2002 made about 10 hp more than all the 2001 cars hes seen wit the same cam and no other mods. h says all the other 2002s are the same as far as those gains go... no only if i could have a good 6 speed, as its a piece of crap after 10k like all he other cars i see

I havent heard of 2002 being any different than 2001, but i can tell you 97 thru 99 heads flow less because of casting roughness and different comb. chamber relief top cuts, and valve shapes also. 2000 and up are definitely better out of the box than previous years.

That's what I did when I stripped one of the plug holes in my heads. 30 bucks and good as new <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />
