Default What about the 8.1L?

First off I'm not at all familiar with the 8.1L, but have heard it compared to a "big block LS1". Is this at all accurate? If so, is there any build and swap potential here? If there was some commonality with the LS1 and the potential to swap it into an F-bod or C5, this would be the ultimate big cube setup wouldn't it?

Just a wondering...

Sorry. Its based off the older style engines. It has more in common with the 454 of years past than the LS1. There really is no parts swapping between the two engines. The biggest production based LS1 type motor so far is the iron block 6.0 in the 3/4 trucks and "special" vehicles like the escalade.

Fulton,

the 8.1 is definately an awesome motor. i have a friend that recently bought one and is in the process of putting it in an ss 454 silverado. the only problem (w/ the f-dody swap) i can forsee is in mounting the beast. if there is a company that makes motor plates for 4th gens to do standard big block swaps, this would be pretty straight forward. next would come finding a set of headers (they actually have the standard BBC pattern ;D ). i've gotten ahold of carputing and they say that they are in beta version testing of 8.1L editing software. you should see the intake ports on this beast. they make the LS1's ports look like a cute lil mini me! with the right cam these motors should be capible of more than 450 at the wheels and much more torque. why not be the first to try it out?? we'd all love to have a guniea pig to learn from. reguards,

8.1's are awesome! Torque out the ying yang. Now if I can only convince Edelbrock to make an aluminum head for this engine it would be a natural in an F-body.

I read a vette mag. in which a guy shoehorned one into a C5 vert.

Look at the High Output marine version of the 8100. It has forged crank and some other goodies. It's rated at 425 hp @ 5000. One of the durability tests was to run it on a dyno 55 minutes at full throttle full load at 5000 then idle it for 5 minutes. That was one cycle.

That cycle was then repeated 300 times! One tuff engine.

Does anyone have any pics of the ports and chambers on this engine? I have looked all over the net with no luck.
Later,
