Retainer Question
Comp Cams came out with the Chromemoly steel retainers for the LS1.
Are these better than the titanium ones? They are cheaper obviously because of the metal but are they better?
Do they weigh more or less than titanium ones do? thanks.

The stock LS1 retainers are pretty light. I'm not convienced they need to be replaced for the average heads and cam car.

Titanium is lighter and stronger that steel, but titanium is a bit of an over kill for most H/C cars but was suggested b/c there was no alternative to the stock ones...personally im not a fan of the stock ret's or behive shaped springs...they dont disperse over pressure over perfectly vertical axis

The only chromemoly retainers that I am aware of that Comp sells is for the dual spring and it is HEAVY, more then twice the weight of a stock LS1 retainer. If you are using 918 springs then use the stock retainer. If you are using 1.440 dual springs then buy the titanium retainers.
What a waste that is. We are in the process of putting up a spread sheet on our web site and we are going to list the weights of all the Comp retainers and locks, and anything else we can get our hands on. Like I said, if you are going stock diameter type spring, use the stock retainer, anything else is a waste of money.
