Default engine year choice for swap

I am wondering what years of the LS1 engine are the best to purchase when starting from scratch for an engine swap? Should any years be avoided? One point I have heard is that the early years have thinner sleeves, and obviously the later years put out more power. I will most likely modify the engine later, so I am not sure the second point matters.

TIA for all the responses
Danny

are you looking to buy a crate motor or getting it from a transplant car. if from a transplant car, i would say 01' plus it would save you the hassle of buying an ls6 manifold and a couple other minor mods. but then again im a newbie at this. let us know what you go with and why. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Sorry, I did not clarify. My intent is to purchase a used LS1/T56 combo from a JY. So 2001+ models use the LS6 intake?

yeah the 2k1+ use ls6 intake and a different cam, the cam is supposed to create more mid range power but of course if you plan on swapping that soon then its a moot point. but if you are gonna run the stock cam for a while i would definately try for a 2001
