car smells bad when i get on it inside only??? ok heres what happens, when i get on the throttle for prolonged periods of time, say a pass at the track or if i punch it on the highway and hold it, it starts to smell really bad in the car like something is burning, there is no smoke anywhere, i pulled over immediatly because it got really bad this time(yes it does it when i get on it regularly but not this bad) and hopped out, the car wreaked inside so bad it was almost unbearable. yet outside, underneath it, behind it, and under the hood there was no odor... my other 01' did this when i first got on it a few times but then it stopped, this ones doing it more and more every time i get on it... the smell is similiar to burnt mud(yes burnt mud, i used to play offroad alot in my truck) i cant describe the smell better but its not gas, exhaust, brakes or anything else... i have no idea what it could be so any ideas would be great. oh yeah my buddy with a 98' has had the same smell in his car a couple times as well when he got on it.

Re: car smells bad when i get on it inside only??? btw forgot to add its an 01' formula a4 in case that makes any diff. the only mods are cut out, and gutted cats, and yes it did it before the cats were gutted. and they have been gutted for quite some time now. so im stumped.

Re: car smells bad when i get on it inside only??? Could be antifreeze. I had a leak from my thermostat that i could never find cause it would evaporate. And every time the stat would open the car smelt horrible.

i know that smell, actually come to think of it, it smells like someone left a soldering gun on to long... its starting to drive me crazy because this time the smell is lingering.
