Default milling heads and what size valves???

Stock short block......5.7 Liter heads....

I am haveing a local engine builder port/polish and mill my heads. What is the most anyone has milled 5.7 heads with a TR 224/224 cam? What about with a TR 230/224 cam?

What size valve should I use?

options are as follows:

intake - 2.000, 2.020, 2.055, or 2.080

exhaust - 1.550, 1.575, 1.600

Some people say don't go any bigger than the 2.020/1.575 combo for street while the guy doing the work said "stuff the biggest thing you can fit."

What do I do? The car is for daily street driving and road racing (don't care about 1/4 mile).

We put in 2.02/1.55 valves, and a 2.02/1.57 would be the biggest valve I would put in a stock shortblock. We just had a customer pull off heads with 2.08 valves and install our Stage I heads that are fully CNC ported but only have stock valves. With a big cam he made around 420 RWHP which is more then the big valve heads made and the small valve heads had much better idle and drivabilty. Don't go too big on the valves. As far as milling, I'm not sure but I think .030"-.040" for the TR224 and about .010" for the TR230/224.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe the 2.02"/1.57" valves are the largest you can actually install in a 5.7 LS1 head and still use the stock valve seats.

Like Brian said, you don't need anything bigger than that in your stock displacement daily driver.

I have MMS Stage IIIx 5.3L heads milled 0.040" with 2.10" intake and 1.60" exhaust valves with a 236/236//591/591//112 cam. No problems at all.

You should have no problems milling your heads 0.040 along with the TR cam you have. If you stay with stock seats, the biggest valves you can go with are 2.02" intake and 1.57" exhaust.

The heads are on a 3.91" bore x 4.00" stroke motor.
