Default oponions on heads please

i know there are no set in stone numbers but i would like to know what you guys think about diferent heads and cam combos for my set up. i would like to see guestamates on what kind of hp i might get.

my set up is below, i figure a prety small cam something like 215-224/.525-.535 lift on a 114 lsa, now for the hard decision, who's heads to go with, there seems to be a large spread in price.

apsolute speed, stage2 for $1350
TEA stage 2 for $1799
gtp/mti stage 2 for $2800

any coments or gueses as to hp, something like "absolute speed H+C=70hp, TEA=80hp, GTP/MTI=90hp" just looking for oponions.

going to keep stock compresion(9.4-1), i am at 6psi now and will probably pully back up to something a little less after the swap, maybe 5psi.

help me make this decsion, thanks

Absolute is new to me so i havent seen any numbers yet. But there are people getting incredible results from MTI. Still looking to see who is running Absolute heads. TEA are running strong also and have a great price. I konw Raughammer is extremely pleased with his MTIs. And i cant argue with his results.

Well I would say that 20hp difference is going to be right from the low end of stage II's to the high end. The numbers are not bad.......

<img src="http://www.absolutespeed.net/img8.gif" alt=" - " />

Stage II head flow......

.2 151 109
.3 213 149
.4 271 192
.5 292 219
.6 303 225

Now that seems pretty consistant with the real results that are out there now with other peoples heads. Is the price a little low, yes. But that is a 20-25 hour set of heads vs. 32-40 hour set of heads.

Things like combustion chambers are different though.

absolute speed heads go 11.04 on jfm's car

i dont think price for heads is relative to hp #s
Absolute Speed might be the cheaper of the bunch but its right there power wise with gtp/tea/mti. im sure Absolute Speed being a new sponsor is going to start off at the RIGHT price.

Let me give some rather contrarian advice, based on my experience of running a Whipple on the street for several years.

You need to tune for torque, and not for HP. The big advantage of the Whipple is that it makes its boost at extremely low RPM's, unlike a centrifugal blower or a turbo. The disadvantage is that the Whipple has an extremely compact case, and it will only flow a limited amount of air, which limits peak HP. The only exception to this is if you have one of their larger blowers that mimics a GMC 6-71. Not many of them around.

So, I would recommend the Absolute Speed Stage 1x heads. It has the stock valves, great flow numbers, and a fantastic price, especially if you get in on the current GP. I already have a set on order for my SS.

Your cam choice is OK, but I would go with a bit more lift. You could also go a bit higher on the duration, as the blower will calm down the idle, and still give you great low-RPM throttle response.
