I have a similar dilemma right now, I’m in the middle of my heads/cam install and am pondering whether or not to install new lifters. I’m just going to order a new set of caddy lifters for $217.99 and have piece of mind. The last thing I want is to have to pull the heads if one of the stockers collapses in the near future.

If you already have the heads off you definately should change them.

I agree...you're already in there, there's no reason not too...especially if it's high mileage.

Would suck to put it all back together only to have one fail...and then remember that you could have taken care of that potential problem while you had it apart.

Cheap insurance if you ask me...

If I had to do it again I would upgrade to some Morels while the heads were off. Im pissed that i didnt since I upgraded every other damn part on the engine yet i just somehow overlooked the lifters. Its itching at me so bad that I may pull the heads just to put in some new Morels.

I'd just get GM/LS7 lifters from Texas Speed for ~$135. They're stock replacements, but GM did improve them a little since the late 90's, enough to where they're good enough for a warranty in a 7000rpm redline 427. Save the Caddy's for when you rebuild the engine.
