Default cam identification question

My brother bought a cam off of someone on this board and we are trying to find out a bit more information. The cam is "supposedly from MMI" and was supposed to have an lsa of 114. However with he keyways set to 4*advanced the cam degrees at 112.

My first question is What does MMI stand for ? I know that the shop has closed and is under a new name and ownership.

Second. Would there be any benefit to advancing 6* to get it to 110* if it does infact have an lsa of 116*or would it be better to leave it at 112*.
The car is a stock bottom LS1, 6 speed with 3.73 gears and weighs about 2800lbs.

And the supposed cam specs are 589/589 229/229 and 114.

Advancing a 116 LSA cam 6 degrees does nothing to the LSA, the LSA of the cam will still be 16 degrees, all advancing will do is more the powerband of the cam more into the low rpm range. Your cam would have a 116LSA and a 110 ICL. LSA and ICL are 2 different things.

So if the cam is showing an ICL of 112 on the degree wheel with it installed at 4* advanced does that mean the LSA is 116 or are the 2 specs not connected at all? If not than how can we tell the LSA with out a cam card or really any other info? Can we find out using the degree wheel?

Cams have always been a little greek to me so I am sorry if I am not making sense.

You can use the degree wheel to find LSA but its different than ICL.

read the cam sticky in this forum, it has some good info in there.
