Default Ls4 Oil Pump With Stock Spring?

This is bothering the hell out of me. Before i dig in and try it i want to know what you guys think.
I have the ls4 pump in my car right now. It runs 80 psi. We all know that it will PROBABLY suck the pan dry at WOT.
My solution to the problem is this.
What if i were to take the stock ls1 oil pump spring and put it in the ls4 pump?

What are your thoughts on this. I cant see it hurting it i just dont want 80psi all the time.

Why don't you just put an ls1 pump back in there. If you rip everything apart, then change the spring, it may not change much in terms of the actual volume of oil that is moved.

Was figureing the new pump would be a plus. Also wasnt sure if the insides were better in the ls4 pump or maybe poreted out more.

Just was curious what others had to say about this....

the guys from Scoggin Dickey.. a sponsor on here started a thread a few months ago, warning people about the LS4 oil pump.. the issue was, it was draining the pan of oil fast.. since it is a higher volume... and he advised sticking with a ported LS6 pump..

you might want to email them or give them a call before install

ok, I just got my car running with this ls4 pump that SDPC recommended to me about 6 months ago when I was buying parts for my build. Now that the car is together, I am seeing 140+ psi on my Defi oil pressure gauge which is mounted in the stock location.

What gives? The spring is suppossed to regulate pressure correct? How can I be getting this high of oil pressure? Is it the pump or something else. It is causing my lifters to pump up all the way and crack the valves. This is causing the car to valve float at high RPM. Who knows what else has been damaged.

turned out to be the pump. I bought a stock z06 pump and pressures are 35-40 idle and no more than 75 at WOT. I still have valve float though. I think the springs need to be replaced. They are crane duals(144832's I believe) and were used with the heads. I am not sure they are up to the task. I am going to have them replaced.

Of interest though is that the part # on the LS4 pump I was sold does not match either of the part #'s listed in the SDPC thread. As a matter of fact, we can't find the part # on any GM website. I plan on calling Fred Beans on Monday. This pump might not even be for my this engine.
