Default Solid lifter on a hydralic cam profile

Since solid lifters tame huge profile cams ie: 650-680 lift with long durations, how would a solid lifter help drivability with a cam like a TR 224? I was thinking if you wanted to go thru the hassle of adjusting valves you could use a cam that was consided big and undrivable if you use a solid.Could this work?

Other than the lash adjustment it's not going to help driveablity.

The problem is that a hydraulic lobe would break a solid roller lifter. The ramp (the area where the lifter starts up the lobe) is going to be steeper on a hyd roller since the oil in the lifter acts like a shock absorber.

You asked and it's not a good idea.

I was thinking it would be the other way around since the solid has to lift more in the same amount of time.

Thanks

The "ramps" on a solid roller are designed to gently (believe it or not) take up the slack as the lifter starts up onto the cam lobe. The ramps on a hydraulic roller are quite different from those of a solid and I'm sure this combination will fail quickly (and probably in a spectacular manner). You may contact the cam manufacturer about a solid cam with comparable performance or getting a custom ground cam to suit your needs. Good luck.
