You'll get a wide variety of opinions, ranging from you can't go too big, and as big as your tuner can handle, all the way down the spectrum.

What do you want out of your cam? Is it an auto or manual? What stall and /or gear do you have? Do you drive in traffic?

The LS6 and FAST manifolds are tuned for a peak of 6300 rpm, so putting in a cam to make power much over that is somewhat of a waste, and generally trades low end that you really feel in a driver.

I think one of the best street cams out there is a 228/232 110+1 custom grind. The VE's are right on par with the intake tuning, and it still makes plenty grunt where you can use it.

If you do a lot of city driving, you may not want a big stall. 3200 or so would be a good compromise. With the light weight of your car, and the really steep first gear, you really won't need much - just enough to keep it from surging in gear at a stop light. I would imagine even a 2800 would probably work, and may help your car hook by keeping your stall speed a little lower than the torque curve comes in.

That cam I listed should work well, and I wouldn't see any reason to go bigger. If you do a lot of city driving, and you don't want to run a stall, I'd say stick with one of the 224 cams, like a TR 224 or TSP 224R.

Question for you - how much weight removal did you have to do to get to 2800 lbs? I've always thought a LSx powered Malibu would be the hot ticket. My first car was an '81 Malibu with a 355. Yours looks much nicer.

Good luck!

haha, well the malibu weighs about 3300lbs, this question was concerning the LSx im putting in my notchback which weighs about 2800... i was always under the impression you choose the converter according to the cam? i do wanna keep the stall kinda low so its better on the street, i guess its all about compromise. thanks for your input though.

the malibu in my sig had an LT1/6speed, hopefully next year ill start working on a LSx motor for that too...
