Default Valve Stem Oil Seals after Cam

A couple months ago I put a cam in my car, ever since then I've been getting some fairly serious amount of oil draining back into the cylindars when it sits. Good for some nice puffs of smoke on startup.

Anyways, When I installed the cam, I had the new style 1 peice stem seals and spring seats. Since I had to install new spring seats with the REV-1116 springs, I bought some new old style seals from the local dealership (thieves I say... thieves) and I put them on, When I put them on, all I did was push them down the valve stem and up again the valve guide. Tried to pull up on them with my fingers and they wouldn't budge, so I figured they were fine (obviously not).

I see people talking about a special tool to put them on, and also people using a socket and a hammer to push it down.

With all that said, how much of a wack should I give the seals? Is there a mark somewhere that indicates they're down far enough?

Are there any better seals to use over the GM seals?

I wouldn't normally be bothered by this as my last car was NOTORIOUS about leaking valve stem seals, but this is getting a little excessive and starting to foul out my plugs.

TIA

They need to be pushed down till they just hit the spring locaters. You don't have to use the special tool, I used a socket and the palm of my hand to push them down, but you can lightly tap the socket with a hammer too.

Make sure you have them installed at the proper height, measure the valve stem oil seal (first design) for the properly installed height. There should be a 18.1-19.1 mm (0.712-0.752 in) gap between the top edge of the oil seal body and the valve spring shim surface.
