Smile Cam install

I am thinking about installing a cam into my car and really just want to know if I should replace the oil pump. The specs on the cam are comp 224/224 .581/.581 112LSA. I just want to make sure that the stocker could handle it and be fine. I will be replacing the springs and rods as well. this is not my dd but I do drive it once a week. Thanks for any help.

I did not install a new oil pump or chain but that is only because i have an 02 with the upgraded ls6 oil pump, however i have the ls1 chain though. Im going to install the melling pump and ls2 chain when i put a new cam and heads in though. If you have the money do it if not you will worry about it.

i would do the pump & chain swap while you have it down.

If you haven't had any problems with your oil pump to this point it's not going to die anytime soon with the cam. If you have the extra money and time it's not a bad idea by any means but you don't have to put one in to do a cam swap.

If youre taking off the timming cover to do the cam, I would recommend the upgraded pump and chain. I did it and I am glad I did. It's over with and I dont have it in the back of my head that my pump or chain can go anytime.

Not only that, but the cam install walkthrough online describes it very well if youre unsure about the extra steps etc. Cant go wrong really, there's no downfall to doing it.
