what does a broken valve spring sound like hey guys need a little help here on my 98 ss. We just installed gtp heads and a 224 224 112lsa cam after my first pass the motor developed a loud ticking noise checked the rocker arms everything fine there, its starts when the motor has some heat in it, she runs and pulls hard so a valve spring or a bad lifter??????????????

Re: what does a broken valve spring sound like If you suspect a broken spring its easy enough to remove the valve covers and check. If you have any doubt at all, open it up and check. I did not know I had a shattered seat and luckily since I change my own oil I saw the broken pieces.
It was running very strong, and sounded great. Go figure. But I opened it up and there plain as day a broken seat on cylinder #2 intake seat was shattered.
