Default Aeration of oil due to overfilling?

I was browsing the Helms manual and it indicated that adding too much oil will cause the oil to foam due to being sloshed around by the crank and hence cause noisy lifters.

It seems that a lot of folks are putting in over 5.5qts to aid in the fight against burning oil. How much oil is too much, and are there any cons other than noisy lifters?

i've been told by a GM engineer to run 7qts for road racing. i have been for some time, and have seen no ill effects from it. my car also burns zero oil after 8 20 minute lapping sessions on a road course @ 3500 to 6600 RPM's. i have also switched to 15w-50 2 weeks ago to combat thinning of the oil due to it getting way too hot (300 degrees or more). we will see how it holds up a week from today. next is a custom 2 core radiator w/ an oil cooler in the tank.
all this in not relevent to this thread, but someone could use it.

I know a guy on this board that went to change his oil the night before we went racing and only changed the filter. He added 5 qts of new oil to the old 5 quarts. Ran with 10+ qts and did low 12's instead of low 11's.

He's much faster now.

My experience with overfilling 1 qt with a 4 cylinder Toyota Corolla is sparkplugs foul and your car will stall. But it does take 50mi of freeway cruising to do it. Don't know how much more qts it takes to foul the plugs on our engines though, or how many freeway miles driving it will take to foul the plugs.
