Motor goes boom
I spun a '99 LS1 shortblock (23K miles supposedly when I got it) to 7100rpm hundreds of times during the 20K miles I owned it. I installed Katech rod bolts, ported LS6 oil pump, LS2 Tchain, TSP 233/239 cam and ported heads with LS6 intake. Dyno charts show the HP from 6K-7100rpm to be just about flat. It would pull from 4500-7100rpm like a raped ape.

IMO 7000+ rpm is asking for trouble unless the motor has been really well put together. A fairly stock 120,000mi short block? I'm not surprised it let go... Sorry for your luck, but now you can build it much stronger.

Worked for about an hour and a half last night. I got the right hand head off and there are no eye brows on the pistons. All is good on that side, but the intake manifold is full of tiny piston particles. I expect to find a missing piston on the left bank this afternoon. I will get pics when it's all down.

7k+ is fine on arps. ive done 10.5k on other motors (non ls1) with no issues what so ever. at that rpm the bolt isnt your problem.

I got the LH head off yesterday. The rod and wrist pin are intact, but the No. 1 piston is gone. The sleeve is cracked and punctured on that cylinder, all other cylinders are OK w/ no signs of PTV contact. I've got pics but I didn't bring my digi cam cable. I've got an sd card reader at work, but my camera has an xd card.
