depending on how long it has been sitting i would definently prime the oil pump with new oil. i think you can borrow the tool at any autozone.

I have heard of people squirting a little trans fluid in each spark plug hole and letting it set for a bit before starting it.

To be really safe, remove the spark plugs, then turn the engine over a few times by hand (use a breaker bar on the crank), then spin it a few times w/ the starter. It should spin very easily w/o the plugs. Then replace the plugs, & fire it up.

I have seen engines that have been sitting around for ten years, & they started up w/o a problem.

Change your oil first.

Marvill mistry oil in each cylinder and then prime the pump .Turn it over a couple times with no plugs to clean it out then start it.It will smoke for a while after you start it but it will clear up.

All good suggestions, definatley change the fluids, then prime the oil pump, pull the plugs, turn it over by hand 20-25 times, then replace the plugs<new ones preferable> and fire it up....

Change the coolant. Squirt some oil or tranny fluid into the cylinders in case the rings are stuck. Spin the motor over by hand to make sure there is notning wrong.

Also, if you can get a oil pump primer, pull the distributor and get the oil pressure up in the motor before hand (that isn't a necessity, just something to do if you can).

Now, the most important thing. Get rid of the old gas. Gas that has been sitting for two years will be bad. Bad gas will form a gummy "varnish" this will stick valves and destroy motors QUICKLY.

We had a guy who had his motor in his jeep rebuilt. He left the motor at the shop, when he came to pick it up, we reminded him that the jeep had been sitting, and he needed to change the gas. He didn't listen. The motor stuck several valves during the break in period. He brought it back to the shop, and it reeked of bad gas. We showed him the deposits on the valves and explained that it was his fault. The shop fixed the motor again, and he cleaned out his tank. This time, no issue....

All are good suggestions. I always had good luck with removing the plugs and squirting in some marvel and then turn it over by hand. I always primed the oil pump with a drill and a tool like described above. One more thing that I would do is get rid of the fuel in the tank, lines and carb. 2 year old fuel is nasty stuff.

Yes, get that old gas out.
Is pumping the tank enough?

"turn it over by hand 20-25 times"

would you personally turn it that many times by hand?
