Default engine block

I was wondering if anyone has welded up the coolant slots that go partically around the liner on the top and bottom. Either weld them up and drill a few holes for coolant to go through or just weld a few bridges across them. This I think would help stiffen up the block and help keep the block and linner from moving around with high cylinder presures. Any thoughts on this or experience in doing this would help me out alot. Thanks Rich
