Default LS6 Heads

I have an LS1 (6 speed) now and I came across an LS6 engine. I am planning on doing Heads and Cam and wanted to know the advantages/disadvantage of having the LS6 Heads ported and polished and using them instead of my LS1 heads. I drive this car all the time in good weather and street race a lot. I am also wondering what CAM to use if I go with the LS6 heads. Any info anybody has would be appreciated. Thanks.

LS6 heads flow more air/cfm on average than LS1 heads, sometimes as much as 30 cfm at peak.

When picking a cam, you need to think about whether you plan to swap gears at all, how high you are comfortable revving the engine, how much you would like it to lope, and whether you will do custom tuning.

Right now I have a Moser 12-bolt with 4.11 gear. I am planning on doing tuning (definitely), I think it needs it now. As far as loping goes, I don't mind it loping I just want it to be everyday streetable. My buddy went 10.99 with a NA 350ci LS1 and I can't even hear that CAM and it's fully streetable, even though he doesn't drive it much on the street. Speed Inc. suggested 224/581 112, but to tell you the truth I don't know much about internal engine at all.

I'm having a set of LS6 Heads done now.Stock they flowed 286 cfm at .550 lift .64 cc combustion chamber out of the box.I think stock LS1's flow 250-260 at the same lift. With a little porting on the LS6's we're at 300cfm at .550 with stock 01 valves.Next is 2.02 valves to reach 310-320 cfm at .550 (I hope)
So stock vs stock they are superior and the benifit of a smaller combustion chamber will help on raising the compression with less of a chance of P/V clearnce problems.

Don your pretty much right on except stock LS1 only flows 240 cfm at .550" at 28" on 2000 and up 5.7 heads. Earlier 5.7 only flow 236cfm at same lift. LS6 heads are hands down superior to LS1 heads. Im still curious to measure valve height differences between the two to see if PTV is going to suffer. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
Oh and for anyone who thinks LS6 head isnt worth running instead of LS1 stage 1 ported heads, stock LS6 outflows LS1 by almost 45 cfm at .550" !!!
