Default spring pads

Man, I hope this is ok. Do you have to use spring pads under the springs? I had someone change my stockers for the hotcam ones, and then I swapped out those for the 918's on the car when I put the tr224 in. I don't recall seeing anything pad wise at the time. I just assumed( not a good idea) that there wasn't anything there before and put the 918's in. I've driven about 1500 miles, and other than a bunch of valvetrain noise, there doesn't seem to be a problem. Any input would appreciated. Sean

You should put in spring seats immediately. You can use stockers since you are running the 918's. Just hope that the spings have not already started chewing throught the aluminum heads. If you see wear spots, I would strongly consider pulling the heads to have those areas welded and re-cut. You have to remember how much pressure is being placed on that small circle.

Thanks Xssive, I kind of figured I'd get bad news. I suppose I should of done some more research before I swapped the cam and all. I only hope I didn't do too much damage. Thanks again.

I believe the stock spring seats are what are used for 918 springs & other single springs of same diameter. I bet they were never removed in first place as they are needed to get valvespring height right. Valve seals need to be removed to get seats off & I think it is recommended to use new ones if they are ever taken off. Just my opinion hope it helps.
