Default Heads old qustion! please help!

Sorry to ask this again. I know it has been asked so many times before. So, help me out!

What are the best heads to get right now? What do you think about the LS6 heads that are CNC done by LPE for GM?

My heads flow about 290-295 @ .600

If I changed to a better flowing heads (like 295 @ .550) I want to pick up about 15-20 rwhp. Is this possible? My mods are in the sig.

Thanks!
Tom

If you changed those fixed heads period you should pick up some. It is kind of hard for another tuner to go back over someone elses work.. If you are going to stay NA.. I would suggest LS6 heads personally.. If you have valve reliefs I would bump the compression up to 11.5:1 or higher. Maybe even 12.1:1. With a good tune you should get your 15rwhp.. Thats just my opinion...

What about the CNC LS6 heads That the LPE did for GM? Do you think they are better than what i have?

Now that is hard to say.. They use stock valves and slightly larger valves might be better for you, but if they flow what they say they do.. Then you should see a nice improvement...

Now that is going to be a decision that you have to make. No one here can say you are going to gain from another set of heads for sure.. Your #'s look great now. Another cam might pick your #'s up as well.. You never know. The X1 is a good cam, but it was really designed with the 346ci in mind..

Good point!

Well, at the same time, I was looking in to something like 232/237. What do you think? It is a daily driver!

You are a great help!
Thanx!!

Tom

Really, the best heads will be a pair custom matched to your set up. GTP, MTI & LPE should all be able to do something very nice. I think LS6 heads would compliment your set up nicely.

With the 382 stroker, I would think about a bigger cam. Maybe 230/224 to 236/228 or something like that. The head porter should have a good idea.

Also might be worth asking GTP about a custom ported Holley intake. I know the Holley has a bad rap on stock cube LS1/LS6's but the 382 should make enough low end torque a little extra porting on the Holley won't hurt the bottom end power.

BTW I think you have a very sweet set up as is.

99 Black Bird T/A,

Thanks!

Well, I might just stop this upgrade and do a 150-200 NX shot if I did not get heads or a cam.

Vince,

I was actually thinking about the R1 cam, any ideas on how it is on traffic as a daily driver?

Thanks for your help!

383LQ4SS in the nitrous forum is the one to talk to you about the R1 being a daily driver. I personally do not have that cam and I have only been a passenger in that car. It seems quite streetable to me, but to you I have no clue. The nitrous idea is also a money saver.. 383LQ4SS can point you in the right direction there as well... Good Luck..

Thanks!

I am in the process to install the NX MAF kit!

I had it going for some time but I stopped thinking that I may need to do a better NA setup. But, it looks like Nitrous is always cheaper and more power!
