Default Hotcam shims question

Are the shims that come with the hotcam necessary to install with the kit? Thanks.

The copper piece is also a spring locating device, similar to a spring cup. To maintain the proper pressure at the installed height of the valve spring it is usually necessary to use these shims/locators --- assuming you are using stock length valves and stock components. Keeping the spring from moving around in the seat is critical to spring life. This piece also prevents unnecessary wear on the aluminum cylinder head.
