After finding two out of spec cylinders in my 4000 mile 2002 Z28, Chevrolet has offered to overbore the engine .010 and install new oversize pistons. I would appreciate your opinions as to accepting this offer.
If done properly could be done with no issues. You could even make it better; put in some ARP rod bolts, and better forged pistons while it is apart.

I would say no, Tell them you want a whole new engine. If Two cylenders are screwed um something else could be too. I just wouldnt risk it. Tell them to get you the LS6 engine and you pay the difference betwene that and the Replacement LS1. If something like the bores are out of wack from the factory just think what else could be too.

The engine was removed from the car and disassembled. An inside micrometer was then used to measure bore diameters.
I just received a phone call from Chevrolet customer center informing me that they were replacing my motor under warranty.

The only thing that would bother me about getting a new motor is what if the new one slaps like the original. I had this happen to my 98 Z71. It devoloped a piston slap so I replaced the motor at the dealership I worked at. A few thousand miles later the new motor started slapping worse than the original one did. If I had to do it all over again I would have them overbore it.

If it was me I would have a engine shop rebuild the engine not the dealer, it's not that they don't know what they are doing, it's that they are alloted a certain amount of time to do it and most likely they don't overbore engines much.

Most dealers have a machine shop do the machine work on the block so really all the tech will do is bolt it back together. Actually, Ive never seen a dealer that had an actual machine shop with a boring bar and all in it. Like I said, you can put a new engine in it, but youve got a good chance that the new engine will have the slap too. Also, I'm not sure if you guys know this or not but if you get a new engine put in at say 20,000 miles, the warranty is still only good for the life of the factory warranty. That means you would only have 16,000 mile warranty on the new engine unless you work something out with GM. Now if YOU buy the motor you get the 3 YR 36,000 mile warranty. Messed up isnt it?
