While turning the crank until the notches on the upper and lower gears match up (#1 firing position), were any of you be able to see those "dots" I have heard rumors that the dots are not visible on stock gears at all....
Can anyone comment on that one ?
Thanks,
Adam

The cam gear dot is real easy to see. The crank gear is not.
Just rotate the engine until the cam dot is pointing straight down. Wipe any oil from the top of the crank gear. Get a bright light and look real close at the crank gear. You will barely see the dot. When you do, mark it with a dab of light colored paint. From there, it's easy.
BTW, once the dots are lined up, don't rotate the engine anymore. That keeps the crank dot on top.
No problem with rotating the cam once the chain is removed. The cam gear can only go on the end of the camshaft one way.
