Default LS1 Heads and Cam for a Truck!!

I know there a lot of these threads on here but this one is a little different. It’s a 1994 Chevy S10 with a 2000 LS1 from a Camaro!

I am running 12.9's with the stock rims and tires on a S10! Well my 275 MT ET Streets came in last week and I am looking for the power mods now! Buddy has a Ford Lightning that I have to keep at bay!
I want to do the Torque converter first but will also do a Heads and cam at about the same time, which will affect which TC I get.

I called TSP and this is what they recommend for me:
PRC Stage 2.5 5.3L Heads with either a Torquer v2 or v3, and I am leaning towards the v3.

I drive the truck on the street every now and then, mostly on the weekends. It is an A4, with a 8.8 rear-end swap with 4.10 gears. I don’t want to do any fly cutting either.

Just wondering on any other vendor’s set-ups or different cam and heads. So what do you guys think?

sounds like you will have a low to mid 11 second truck on your hands.

That is what I am looking for a mid to low 11's truck!

I have been looking around the forum and read about the other cams offered and considering a Torquer v2 or a 228 cam. From what I have read bigger is not always better! How will me 4.10 gears affect my cam choices?

with 4:10 gears you can trade more low end for more high end power since you'll get out of the lower rpm's quicker.

I would guess around a 3200 to 3600 stall would be a good choice for that cam. I'm not an auto guy so I haven't read all that much about it. you may need to beefing your your trans. that can is mild so it should be great for the street also. now that I think about it, depending on the weight of your truck I would almost go out on limb and say a high ten would be possible.

Thanks for the reply! So I should still have some low end torque with the gears if I went with the Torquer v3?

Which cam would you guys choose and why? Not just TSP cams either, any cam! I am leaning towards Torquer v2 so I can keep some low end torque.

226/236 .525/.525 110

Nice! Why go with the patriot heads, any particular reason?

I would go with the TSP combo... I have heard some people say that the patriot weren't all that great. you should be around 450hp and 400tq with the 5.3 and torquer. call them and get the differentd between V2 and V3.

Don't let the name "Torquer" fool you. It's still a cam that breathes up top and doesn't make any more significant or nont significant torque than most other cams out there.

With the 4.10 gears shouldnt I be able to get out of the low rpm's quick enough to use the powerband of the v2? Should I look at maybe a 228? I just dont want to lose anything down low compared to stock.

Where does the v2 make power compared to the v3 and 228R?

Call Tony Mamo at AFR. Me and my dad just put a set of AFR 205 heads and a 224/230 .581/.588 114LSA cam on a Silverado SS and it made 400 Ft. lbs of torque off idle through two driveshafts and 20" wheels.
